The church of San Giuseppe stands in Fasano, on the left side of the mother church. It dates from the early twentieth century and was consecrated in 1923; today it is used as a hall for cultural events.
What to see
The interior is a Neoclassical space. In 1994 it was enriched with six stained-glass windows made in the Tiffany technique by a local artist: they show the four evangelists, Saint Joseph with the Child in his arms and a cross with an ear of wheat and grapes.
There is also a large canvas of the Death of Saint Charles Borromeo, more than two and a half metres high, painted in late sixteenth-century style by an anonymous local painter. It was commissioned for the mother church by a relative of the bailiff of Santo Stefano, and once hung in the chapel dedicated to the saint.
Visiting
Openings and the programme of events should be checked with the parish of the mother church.
Our editors' tip
The Saint Charles canvas has a story of loss and rediscovery: after leaving the mother church it was found in a parish storeroom, restored in 1993 and placed here.
