Feast of Sant'Agostino
📅 Every year, on 28 August
On 28 August Belvì, a municipality of 665 inhabitants in the province of Nuoro, celebrates its patron Sant'Agostino.
Belvì gives its name to a whole Barbagia. The houses used to be of schist stone bonded mostly with mud, and that although the village produced lime in quantity and exported it: the lime went away, and at home people went on building with earth. The streets were paved with what was left over from the kilns.
The Isili-Sorgono railway passes here, and since 1997 it serves tourists only: the Belvì station opens in summer. Along these tracks travelled David Herbert Lawrence, who wrote about the journey in 1921 in Sea and Sardinia. Above the village the Gennargentu rises to Punta La Marmora, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-four metres.
