The patron of Santu Lussurgiu is Saint Lussorius, celebrated on 21 August with the Ardia de Santu Lussurzu, the horse race in his honour.
The town is deeply tied to horse culture: during the three days of Carnival, Sa Carrela 'e Nanti is run, preceded about a week earlier by Cantigos in Carrela; in the first days of July comes the Ardia de su Coro 'e Zesus, and in autumn the regional horse fair Cavalli in fiera, which marked its centenary in 2006. In the week before Easter, Sa Chida Santa traditionally re-enacts the Passion of Christ. The area holds the Nuraghe Elighe Onna and the Nuraghe Mura Lavros.
