Feast of Saint Theodore
📅 Every year, on 9 November
On 9 November Paulilatino celebrates its patron Saint Theodore, to whom the church in the town centre is dedicated.
Oristano has existed only since 1974, but its capital was the seat of one of the four medieval Sardinian judicates: here Eleonora of Arborea issued the Carta de Logu in the late 1300s, a legal code that stayed in force for four centuries. Its 87 municipalities take in the west coast facing the Sea of Sardinia, the lagoons of Cabras and Santa Giusta, the farmed flatland of the Campidano and inland villages, the smallest home to ninety people.
The Sinis peninsula, beyond Cabras, is the main draw: the quartz-pebble beaches of Is Arutas, the Phoenician and Punic ruins of Tharros, and the Mont'e Prama giants, colossal stone figures shown in the Cabras museum. Up the coast, Bosa spills pastel houses down to the Temo, the only navigable river in Sardinia, under a Malaspina castle. On the last Sunday of Carnival, Oristano runs the Sartiglia, a masked horse race in which riders spear a silver star at full gallop.
