Known locally in Sicilian as Motta d'Affermu, Motta d'Affermo is a small municipality in the Province of Messina with 828 residents. Situated in northern Sicily, it lies roughly 80 kilometres east of Palermo and 110 kilometres west of Messina.
The municipality belongs to the Valle dell'Halaesa intermunicipal consortium alongside Pettineo, Tusa, Castel di Lucio, and Mistretta. It also forms the Costa Alesina union with Tusa, sharing borders with Reitano and Pettineo.
