Feast of Saint Maurus
📅 Every year, on 15 January
On 15 January Trambileno celebrates its patron Saint Maurus, to whom the town's church is dedicated; the territory also holds the Forte Pozzacchio and the Eremo di San Colombano.
Trambileno has no single centre: it is a scattered comune, with its seat at Moscheri, and it stands where the two branches of the Leno join, the Leno of Vallarsa and the Leno of Terragnolo. The name says exactly that: it comes from trans bis Lenum, «between two Lenos», and the river-name Leno is probably pre-Latin, perhaps Rhaetic or Etruscan. In Cimbrian the village is called Trumelays, because in the thirteenth century German colonists settled here; in the census of 2021 a little more than one per cent of the residents declared themselves of Cimbrian tongue. The thing to see, however, hangs on a rock face sheer above the Leno: it is the hermitage of San Colombano. There lived hermits who founded the first building and the monastic cell, documented from 753 thanks to a date carved in the rock; from the tenth century a little church was built around the cave, and to reach it you climb a steep stair cut in the stone.
Above Moscheri, on a rocky spur, stands instead the sanctuary of the Madonna de La Salette, built in 1856 thanks to the gift of a nobleman from Rovereto: it is also on the town's coat of arms, drawn above the two Lenos joining. The rest of the territory is mountain: from the meadows of the Alpe Pozze, where the Vincenzo Lancia refuge stands, start the paths that climb the Pasubio massif, the Col Santo, the Col Santino, monte Testo and monte Corno Battisti. Not far away is the Alpe Alba, with its stone huts, put up to shelter the farmers who made hay high up and today used for the summer holidays. The other churches of the comune are San Mauro at Moscheri and San Valentino at Vanza.
