Feast of Saint Ursula
📅 Every year, on 21 October
On 21 October Sant'Orsola Terme celebrates its patron Saint Ursula, after whom the town is named; the territory also preserves the Sass de Sant'Orsola.
For eight centuries this was not an Italian province but a prince-bishopric inside the Holy Roman Empire, and until 1918 the Italian-speaking southern end of Austrian Tyrol; it joined Italy only with the 1919 Treaty of Saint-Germain. That border history still shows. Trentino is an autonomous province, paired with South Tyrol in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, and its valleys keep Ladin speakers in Val di Fassa and the German dialects of Mocheno and Cimbrian at Luserna. Its 166 municipalities lie almost entirely in the mountains, in the Dolomites and the valleys below, around the provincial capital, Trento.
In Trento the Castello del Buonconsiglio, the bishops' old seat, dominates the city. Rovereto has the MART, one of Italy's most serious contemporary art museums, while Riva del Garda and Arco sit at the head of Lake Garda, mild enough for winter walking.
