On 3 October Fucecchio celebrates its patron Saint Candidus; the town is also known for the Palio di Fucecchio, held among 14 districts on the second-to-last Sunday of May.

Fucecchio produced the sharpest pen in Italian journalism: Indro Montanelli was born here in 1909, and a foundation in town keeps his archive. Puccini, for his part, put the town's name on stage — in Gianni Schicchi old Simone boasts of having been its podestà.
Below the hill stretches the Padule di Fucecchio, Italy's largest inland marsh, a mosaic of open water and reed hides where migratory birds stop over. The town of 22,785 residents earns its living in the lower Valdarno leather district, half an hour from Florence.
