San Gimignano celebrates the saint it is named after on 31 January. He is not the only patron, though: 12 March belongs to Saint Fina, and the townspeople hold the two dates in equal regard.
March also brings the Giornata del ritorno, the day of return devoted to San Gimignano's emigrants: those who left come home, and for a day the towers are simply home again.
