Colle di Val d'Elsa

Colle di Val d'Elsa is a town split by industry and history: crystal factories dominate the valley, while a medieval core crowns the steep ridge above. Producing roughly 15% of the global supply of crystal glass, this Tuscan community of 21,256 residents has rightfully earned the title of Italy's Bohemia.

Heading up from the industrial Colle Bassa into historic Colle Alta, the environment shifts completely. The upper streets mark the 1240 birthplace of architect Arnolfo di Cambio, who lends his name to the main square. Historically divided into three distinct boroughs, the town now simply operates between the riverside workshops and the hilltop monuments.
