San Giovanni Lupatoto has always lived with its river: the Adige draws its border with Verona, and the embankments are the daily walk of the "lupatotini". From a farming village it grew into one of the productive centres of Verona's belt, among paper mills, mechanics and logistics.
The curious name — "lupatoto" — feeds debated etymologies that locals happily recount. Verona is fifteen minutes away: the Arena, Piazza Erbe and Juliet's house can be enjoyed from here without paying its rents.

San Giovanni Lupatoto celebrates Saint John the Baptist on 24 June, in the church dedicated to him; the municipal territory also holds the Sanctuary of the Madonna dello Staffalo, also known as of the Moors or of the Germans.
