Pandoro star-shaped Christmas cake, soft, with vanilla icing sugar
Eight points, powdered sugar like snow on a mountain: pandoro was born in Verona in 1894, patented by Domenico Melegatti.
Read more →Verona owns a share of Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy, which it splits with Brescia to the west and Trentino to the north. From that border the province drops south towards Rovigo for some fifty miles, half that from east to west, and gathers 98 municipalities around a capital city listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Three sights carry the city's tourism on their own: the Arena, Piazza delle Erbe and the Casa di Giulietta, the house given to Shakespeare's Juliet, a character who never existed and still pulls the crowds. Away from the centre this is a crowded, working province — the second in the Veneto by population after Padua — with Villafranca di Verona, Negrar di Valpolicella and Legnago among its larger towns.
