The name is a description: the hill stands in the middle, between monte Butino and monte Rinello, and the village sits around it. In 1462 it passed to the D'Avalos along with twelve other fiefs of the county of Monteodorisio, and there it stayed until the end of feudalism. In the church of San Giovanni hangs a Madonna and Child by Tanzio da Varallo, who was not from Abruzzo.
The wooden choir behind the altar has eleven stalls, one for each member of the confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament, founded in the seventeenth century: a piece of furniture that counts people. Below the village lies the artificial lake of Bomba; and in the square a monument of painted tiles remembers Marisa di Nardo, from here, killed in the attack on the twin towers in 2001.
