Feast of Saint Blaise and Saint Margaret
📅 Every year, on 3 February
On 3 February Cappadocia celebrates the patronal feast of Saint Blaise, co-patron together with Saint Margaret, to whom a church in the town is dedicated.
Nobody knows where the name comes from. There are three hypotheses: Caput Duodecim, from the twelve brigands who are said to have founded the village by carrying off the women of Petrella Liri; Caput Otium, the place where shepherds rested; or the Anatolian Cappadocia itself. The first document naming the village is a bull of Clement III of 1188.
Here, in 1853, Salvatore Lilli was born, a Franciscan who after fifteen years of mission in Armenia was killed with bayonets on 22 November 1895 together with seven Armenian companions: a man from Cappadocia dead in Anatolia. In the square there is also a monument to the mule, which carried the firewood down from the woods, and there are the caves called of Beatrice Cenci, which have nothing to do with her: her story happened at Petrella Salto, not Petrella Liri.
