The patron of Bova Marina is Our Lady of the Sea, also called Stella Maris, celebrated throughout the first week of August in the church dedicated to her. She has been the town's patron since a group of fishermen found an ancient sacred painting on the seabed.
Also in August, the town used to host Paleariza, an ethno-cultural-musical festival involving Bova Marina and the neighbouring Greek-speaking towns. The town also holds the Museum of the Bova Marina synagogue, with its related archaeological excavations, and borders the Aspromonte National Park.
