The patron of Gesualdo is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on 6 December in the Church of San Nicola.
The town's religious spirit peaks every last Sunday of August, on the occasion of the Flight of the Angel feast: a child dressed as an angel is harnessed to a rope, a tradition originating in the 19th century, between 1833 and 1876. The town also once held the Carnevale Gesualdino, with parades of allegorical papier-mâché floats from 1969 to 2017, and a Living Nativity from 1991 to 2018. The town also holds the Castello di Gesualdo.
