On 12 September Terzigno celebrates the Immaculate Conception; the municipality lies within the Vesuvius National Park.
On the coat of arms is Vesuvius and the motto Ter Ignis, three times the fire: the town is said to have been destroyed three times by eruptions, and that is also where the name is thought to come from. Terzigno sits on the south-eastern flank of the volcano.
As a comune it is young: it was born in 1913 by splitting from Ottaviano, and until then its history is Ottaviano's. But people lived here in Roman times: the aristocrats of Pompeii came for the view over the gulf, and the villas of Cava Ranieri prove it. More than 265 hectares of the territory are woodland and pine forest. There are 17,367 residents.
