The Gothic War ended around here, on the Monti Lattari: Teia, the last king of the Goths, was killed in this territory and, tradition says, thrown into a well, at the place still called Pozzo dei Goti at Angri.
Sant'Antonio Abate is a very young comune: it broke away from Lettere only in the twentieth century, and on its coat of arms it still carries the castle of Lettere, that is, of the town it left. The parish church is from 1801 and keeps works that came from the abbey of Santa Maria di Realvalle. Today the work here is processing tomatoes. There are 19,546 residents.
