Masi Torello

Province: Ferrara · Region: Emilia-Romagna · Population: 2,368 · Postal code: 44020

The name may come from manso, the holding, joined to torelus, the twisted rope: it would have been a farm where rope was made. But on the coat of arms there is a bull, which pulls towards the Torelli, the Ferrara family — and of Torelli holdings hereabouts there is no document.

Masi Torello has been a comune only since the twenty-fifth of September 1959: before that it was a hamlet of Portomaggiore, and the first town council took its seat at the end of 1960. Before the twelve hundreds the place appears in no document at all, and it is thought that it simply was not there. The village has a station on the Ferrara-Codigoro line.
