The patron saint of Cesena is Saint John the Baptist, celebrated on 24 June with the Fiera di San Giovanni, which has for time immemorial enlivened Piazza del Popolo, the heart of Cesena's historic centre. Linked to this patronal feast is the fischietto di San Giovanni, a typical sweet shaped like a goose or a rooster, which still accompanies the celebrations today.
On 15 August, for the Feast of the Assumption, the faithful traditionally walk the route leading to the town's abbey. In spring, meanwhile, the town hosts Cesena Fashion Week, a week of events and fashion shows, while among the most significant sites of the historic centre are the church of San Domenico, the municipal picture gallery and the church of Sant'Agostino, witnesses to the town's long artistic and religious tradition.
