In 1454 the Malatesta opened their convent library to the citizens: the Malatestiana is Europe's first civic library, arrived intact — benches, chained manuscripts and light — to the point that UNESCO inscribed it in the Memory of the World register. It is the treasure of a city people usually pass through, when it should be opened like one of its codices.
