Corniglio

The landslide of the Lama measures two hundred hectares and has moved again four times, as far as is known: in 1612, in 1740, in 1902 and in 1996; there is another, in the sixteenth century, of which only an unsigned account survives. The geographer Roberto Almagià described the one of 1902 down to the last detail.

Corniglio, which appears for the first time in a document of 894, had an electoral college of its own, and in that college Niccolò Tommaseo and Giuseppe Garibaldi were elected; then, with the Kingdom of Italy, the college was closed and joined to that of Langhirano. The castle is painted in the Golden Room of Torrechiara and, under the name Cornelio, among the popes' geographical maps.
