Renaissance painter Bartolomeo Ramenghi was so closely tied to his birthplace that art historians still refer to him simply as "Bagnacavallo". Known in the Early Middle Ages as castrum Tiberiacum, this Ravenna settlement is anchored by Piazza Nuova, a striking elliptical colonnade built in the 18th century specifically for the local market.
Today, the town of 16,715 residents maintains a specialized tradition of weaving marsh herbs. Beyond the medieval layout, the 7th-century Pieve of San Pietro in Sylvis offers an austere historical detour. For an outdoor diversion, Podere Pantaleone operates as a reserve preserving the original Po Valley biodiversity.
