After the earthquake of 1976 many people from the Valcanale and the Slavia friulana came down to the plain, and at Moimacco a Slovene-speaking community grew up. How large it is, is not clear: a government estimate in 1983 said thirty per cent, and the geographer Milan Bufon judged that hardly credible; fifteen years later other scholars put it above twenty.

At Bottenicco stands villa de Claricini-Dornpacher, of the late seventeenth century, built on the model of the Venetian villas and today the seat of the foundation of that name. In the village there is also a picture gallery made of the paintings a local artist, Guido Tavagnacco, gave to the comune. The station on the Udine-Cividale line is a request stop: the train halts if somebody asks.
