Feast of San Magno
📅 Every year, on 19 August
On 19 August Colle San Magno, a municipality of 744 inhabitants in the province of Frosinone, celebrates its patron San Magno di Anagni.
The village was founded in the eleventh century by people who came from Castrum Coeli, the castle on monte Asprano that is now Castrocielo, and it took its name from Magnus of Anagni, the bishop and martyr credited with the christianising of southern Lazio. It stands at five hundred and forty metres on the slopes of monte Cairo, with the Liri valley below.
Every 15 March the Rape of Varciosa is remembered, a Volscian assault with women carried off: tradition places it in the fifth century before Christ, that is one thousand five hundred years before the village existed. After the D'Avalos, in the sixteenth century Colle San Magno was bought by Giacomo Boncompagni and entered the duchy of Sora; it returned to the Kingdom of Naples in 1796. In its territory the old asphalt mines remain.
