Michelangelo called it "the water that breaks the stone": the master's letters document that he treated his kidney stones with Fiuggi water, and Boniface VIII had sought it before him. On this thousand-year fame grew Lazio's spa capital: the Boniface VIII spring, an Art Nouveau masterpiece, and the Anticolana spring with their parks remain the guests' daily rite.

Above the garden city, old Fiuggi is a compact medieval village of climbing lanes and views over the Ernici mountains. A historic golf course, chestnut woods and Rome an hour away: holidays of another era, still in service.
