The patron of Fiuggi is Saint Blaise, celebrated on 3 February. The feast, however, begins the evening before: on 2 February, in the square in front of the town hall, piazza Trento e Trieste, it is the custom to set fire to structures made entirely of straw and wood.
The custom goes back to a legend according to which celebrations of just this kind prevented the invasion of the village in 1298. The church of San Biagio, once the town's collegiate church, is dedicated to the saint.
