Colle di Tora

Province: Rieti · Region: Lazio · Population: 384 · Postal code: 02020

Until 1864 this village was called Collepiccolo and stood on the banks of a river, the Tora. Then it changed its name, and a few decades later the landscape changed too: in 1939 the dam was built that barred the Turano to make electricity and to protect the Rieti plain from floods, and the river became a lake. The most fertile land of the valley went under water, and the village found itself on the water: what today is a peninsula, a strip of land running out into the lake, used to be dry ground in the middle of the country.

That landscape has brought the cinema here. In 1972 Bitto Albertini shot «Il santo patrono» in the village, with Lucio Dalla in the lead; in 2009 Francesca Archibugi set part of «Questione di cuore» here, with Kim Rossi Stuart, Micaela Ramazzotti, Paolo Villaggio and Antonio Albanese; and in between, in 2001, some scenes of a Rai television series were filmed here as well.
