The sources say little about Paganico Sabino, and the little they say is worth having: in its territory lies a stone everyone calls the Pietra scritta, the written stone, a Roman inscription still where somebody carved it. The village lies inside the nature reserve of Monte Navegna and Monte Cervia, among woods and ridges.
The map says the rest. The comuni it borders — Ascrea, Collegiove, Marcetelli, Pozzaglia Sabina, Varco Sabino — are all tiny, some of them with only a few dozen inhabitants: this is a corner of the province of Rieti where distances are measured in bends of the road. The village's coat of arms, for that matter, is recent: granted in 1990, with an all-white gonfalon.
