Ardesio celebrates Saint George on 23 April, in the church dedicated to him.
In 1797, when the French arrived, a Tree of Liberty was raised in the square at Clusone. Two brothers from Ardesio, Luigi and Francesco Bana, cut it down. Luigi was arrested, tried at Bergamo, sentenced to death and taken back to Clusone to be shot in the town square: the side door of the town hall still carries the bullet holes. Francesco was tried on the twenty-second of December of the same year by the military criminal commission and beheaded the following day.
Three thousand six hundred and thirty-two inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, in the upper Val Seriana, on the left bank of the Serio. The name comes from the Latin aridus, dry, having passed through ardus and Ardese before settling on Ardesio. On the left-hand slope is an old quarry of the veined grey marble they call the Madonna's marble: it is found on many buildings in Bergamo and on the floor of the university's great hall. On the thirty-first of January a puppet representing the month of January is burned in front of the town hall, to send the cold away, and on the twenty-third of June they commemorate the apparition of the Virgin to two little girls, which happened in 1607.
