Dalmine is the steel tube turned into a town. The mill opened in 1906 by the Mannesmann brothers gave its name to the company — Dalmine, now TenarisDalmine — and the company then shaped the town itself: a workers' village, managers' quarters and services drawn around the plant, one of Italy's most complete company towns.
Eight kilometres from Bergamo, the municipality of 22,881 also hosts the engineering campus of the University of Bergamo, a natural extension of its technical calling. Walking through it means reading a century of industrial architecture that is still on the clock.
