Feast of Saint Columbanus
📅 Every year, on 23 November
On 23 November Parzanica celebrates its patron Saint Columbanus, to whom the town's church is dedicated.
The village stands at seven hundred and fifty metres above the western shore of lake Iseo, and until 1957 it could be reached only by mule tracks; the panoramic road from Tavernola was opened in 1999. Its history, as the source itself admits, is made of small things: it used to be called Gromol, from the Latin grumus, a hillock.
The arms are a portrait: there is a chestnut burr, because the chestnut has fed this place for as long as anyone knows; a tower, for the old quarrels and the temper of the people; and a buttercup, the flower that grows among the rocks in the poorest ground, put there to stand for those who managed to live on so hard a soil.
