Piazza Brembana

Province: Bergamo · Region: Lombardy · Population: 1,235 · Postal code: 24014

The church of San Martino is not Piazza Brembana's alone: it is shared with the neighbouring village of Lenna, and inside are a polyptych by Lattanzio da Rimini, statues by Andrea Fantoni and canvases by Carlo Ceresa. From this village four brothers set out, Attilio, Santino, Natale and Giannino Calvi, all of whom fell in the Great War; in 2015, for the centenary, a museum trail was dedicated to them.

In 1927 the fascist regime joined Piazza Brembana to Valnegra, Lenna and Moio de' Calvi in a single municipality called San Martino de' Calvi: the four separated only in 1956. Until 1966 the Brembana valley railway came up here, with its terminus in the village, loading timber from the upper valley.
