The name says what it is: a small clearing among the mountains of the Val Brembana. The inhabitants are called the gàcc dé Piazzòl, the cats of Piazzolo, and the cats have ended up in the coat of arms. How poor this clearing was is told by one detail: although it had its own parish church, for centuries people went to mass in the nearby villages, because there was no money to keep a priest.
The carriage road arrived in 1943, and the war left a place name too: partisans on the run hid nearby, praying to Saint Rita that the Germans would not find them, and since then that hillside bears the saint's name. In the cemetery lies Guido Galli, the magistrate killed in 1980 during the years of lead: he came from here, and the village's main street is named after him.
