Feast of Saint Michael
📅 Every year, on 29 September
On 29 September Pontirolo Nuovo celebrates Saint Michael; the village lies along the Adda Nord park.
In the middle of via Treviglio, right in the roadway, stands a small country oratory dedicated to Saints Faustinus and Jovita. It was built in the twelfth century, and the first time it is mentioned is in a bull of pope Adrian IV of 1155. For centuries there was talk of pulling it down to widen the road, and for centuries nothing was done; in the end, with the restoration of 1998, it was decided instead to move the road and lay out a small public garden around it.
The name of the village speaks of a bridge, and the bridge is on the coat of arms too; beside it are the sword and the scales, which are the attributes of the archangel Michael, the patron saint. The Nuovo was added in 1863: before that it was simply Pontirolo. The territory is entirely flat, a little more than a hundred and fifty metres above sea level, and it has no hamlets: only a few localities and many farmsteads scattered through the fields.
