The strada Francesca passed through Ciserano, the road that linked Milan to Aquileia: first it was a trading route, then the usual path of the raids that came from the north-east, and finally the Franks put it back in order and left it their own name. Along that road the body of the emperor Louis II, son of Lothair, was carried from Brescia to Milan. Of the medieval castle almost nothing is left: it was partly absorbed into the parish church that took its place, and which was already standing in the sixteenth century.

Under Venice the village was a border post. The Duchy of Milan began a few kilometres away, marked by the fosso bergamasco, and at the edge of the built-up area stood a customs house with its garrison; the name of a courtyard, the Stal del Capitane, the captain's yard, still recalls those encampments. After the Second World War, on the eastern side of the territory, a new town was to be built: Zingonia, an industrial centre designed for fifty thousand inhabitants, which has largely remained unfinished. In 2019 the Anna and Athena blocks were pulled down, and since then Ciserano has had no houses in that area.
