Sovere

Province: Bergamo · Region: Lombardy · Population: 5,509 · Postal code: 24060

Sovere is a village cut in two by water: the Borlezza stream runs through the middle of it, and on the two banks stand the borgo San Martino and the borgo San Gregorio. The town's coat of arms brings together precisely the two things that hold the village together: the church of San Martino, founded beside the old medieval tower, and the stone bridge built in 1879 to link the two boroughs. The name appears for the first time in a document of the year 837, in the form Suberas.

On the mountain above the village stands the Malga Lunga, now a museum of the Resistance, in memory of what happened there in 1944. The village also keeps a more unusual trace: Sovere is home to the Collage de 'Pataphysique, the official offshoot of the French Collège de 'Pataphysique. And on the gate of palazzo Longhini, more than five metres high and painted a bright green that stands out against the yellow of the front, the iron hooks remain to which the horses were tied, probably forged by the family's own smithy.
