Valbrembo

Province: Bergamo · Region: Lombardy · Population: 3,886 · Postal code: 24030

Within the territory of Valbrembo there were four communes: Ossanesga, Scano al Brembo, Forzanica and Gorzanica. The last two disappeared centuries ago — Ossanesga took in Forzanica in the fifteenth century — and the present municipality is the sum of the other two, made in 1928. Not everyone agreed: in 1952 the inhabitants of Scano al Brembo applied to become an independent commune again, and the provincial council gave an unfavourable opinion at its sitting of the sixteenth of January 1954. Since then Scano has remained a quarter.

Three thousand eight hundred and eighty-six inhabitants in the province of Bergamo, on the left bank of the Brembo, where the road into the Val Brembana opens. In the old centres of Scano and Ossanesga stand the towers from the days when there was fighting here: one of stone is absorbed into the Frera farmstead, and there is the Vacis tower with its fortified house, which served to keep watch on the river. On the municipal territory, since 1981, is the Le Cornelle wildlife park, and from the Valbrembo airfield a gliding club has been flying for more than thirty years.
