Until 1928 the municipality was called simply Volciano. It was the podestà who had Roè added, and not for historical reasons: Roè was the district where the Hefti cotton mill stood, opened in 1884, and by the nineteen-twenties that factory counted for more than the old village centre. The official name registered an economic fact. Then the mill closed, after the Second World War, and the name stayed: Roè Volciano still leads with the neighbourhood of a plant that no longer exists.
Four thousand four hundred and sixty-five inhabitants in the province of Brescia, at the mouth of the Valle Sabbia. The coat of arms tries to tell everything else in a single image: the lion of the Republic of Venice, the key of Saint Peter for the Benedictines who from the eleventh century ruled the territory from their monastery on Monte Orsini above Serle, the bunch of grapes and the olive branches for the cultivated hills, and an eagle on the hill of Eliano with the inscription Gens Volusia, recalling the Vicus Volusianus from which the name comes. At Tormini, between 1897 and 1968, the Rezzato-Vobarno railway also passed through, with a halt right in front of the factory.
