Alta Valle Intelvi

Province: Como · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,835 · Postal code: 22024

In two years the Val d'Intelvi changed its face. On the first of January 2017 Lanzo d'Intelvi, Pellio Intelvi and Ramponio Verna merged into a new municipality, the Alta Valle Intelvi, after the consultative referendum of the twentieth of November 2016; the following year, on the first of January 2018, three more municipalities of the same valley did the same and gave birth to Centro Valle Intelvi. Six villages became two, by their inhabitants' choice and within twelve months.

The coat of arms, granted in 2019, is an inventory of what was there before: the green and red enamels come from Pellio Intelvi, the halberd blade from Lanzo d'Intelvi and the four golden sceptres from Ramponio Verna. At Lanzo is the viewpoint they call the Balcony of Italy: from up there one sees the lake of Lugano, the city of Lugano and, behind, the Alps. Two thousand eight hundred and thirty-five inhabitants in the province of Como, in a scattered municipality made of villages that until yesterday were three.
