Risotto alla Milanese rice, saffron, beef marrow and butter, creamy and soft
Rice, saffron, beef marrow and butter: Milan's golden dish, tied by legend to a glassmaker of the Duomo in 1574.
Read more →Como is one of the few Italian provinces with a piece of itself outside the country: Campione d'Italia is a Como municipality entirely surrounded by Swiss territory, in the canton of Ticino. The rest hugs the Swiss border as well, 148 municipalities spread between the Lugano Prealps and the glacial lake that shares the province's name, with the city of Como as its capital. The province used to be larger: it lost its northern edge to Varese in 1927 and nearly all of the Lecco area in 1992.
Most visitors head for the middle of the lake and Bellagio. Como itself keeps the cathedral, the Tempio Voltiano and the Giovio museum at Borgovico. South of the water the province turns to work rather than views: Cantù, Mariano Comense and Erba are the largest towns after the capital.
