Originally formed by merging two distinct districts into Erba-Incino, this municipality of 16,503 residents was officially granted honorary city status by presidential decree on May 12, 1970.

The town is located in the traditional Brianza area at the base of the Lombard Prealps, closely shadowing Monte Bollettone. It is positioned roughly 10 kilometers east of Como and 40 kilometers north of Milan.
