Feast of Saint Stephen
📅 Every year, on 26 December (Saint Stephen)
Casale Cremasco-Vidolasco has as patrons Saint Stephen, celebrated on 26 December, and Saints Faustinus and Jovita; a church of the town is dedicated to each.
At Vidolasco there is a low hill called Montecchio, and under that hill lies the most important source in the whole of Lombardy for the late Bronze Age and the proto-Golasecca phase. Regular excavation began on 6 June 1960: more than a thousand fragments of pottery came to light, spindle whorls, strainers perhaps used for working milk, bronze pins and tweezers. Those people traded amber and bronze objects as far as Switzerland, the Veneto and central-western Europe, and from the grave goods it is clear that they were already divided by wealth. In the stratigraphy, at a certain point, there is a layer of sterile sand: perhaps a sudden flood, after which life began again.
The comune, on the other hand, is recent: it was created in 1934 by putting together Casale Cremasco and Vidolasco, which although very close had had entirely independent administrative and religious histories. Casale, on the left bank of the Serio, appears in a document of 919 and was a fief of the Umiliati until the sixteenth century; Vidolasco, from the fifteenth, belonged to the Tadini and then to the Sanseverino-Vimercati.
