For centuries a piece of this municipality, the southern one, belonged to Zibello: it lay on the other bank of the Po, and therefore in the province of Parma. Then the river changed course and left it behind, but the border stayed stubbornly where it was, for generations. It took Napoleon to sort matters out, taking that strip from Zibello and giving it to Pieve d'Olmi.
The name explains itself, and is drawn on the coat of arms: a church with a red bell tower, which is the pieve, and on either side two elms on a green field. The parish church is dedicated to Saint Geminianus, bishop of Modena: curiously a saint from the other bank, in a village that long kept one foot across the water.
