Pescate

Province: Lecco · Region: Lombardy · Population: 2,188 · Postal code: 23855

Pescate lies on the right bank of the lake of Garlate, below monte Barro, and from the lake it took both its name and its trade: for centuries people fished here. From the lake it also received its dead, so much so that the village has a chapel dedicated to the victims of the lake, already standing in 1909. Most of the rest of its territory today falls inside two parks, the Adda Nord and the Monte Barro.

Its administrative history, on the other hand, is one long disappearing and reappearing: annexed to Olginate in 1809, to Lecco in 1812 and then to Garlate in 1928, Pescate became a comune again only in 1953. The coat of arms holds the two things together: the mountain and the lake, the mitre of the Milanese monastery of Sant'Ambrogio, which held the village from 835, and a trophy of arms for the battles that followed one another here.
