Somaglia

Province: Lodi · Region: Lombardy · Population: 3,661 · Postal code: 26867

In 1980 the baroness Guendalina Cavazzi della Somaglia gave the family castle to the municipality. It is a building of imposing plan, altered many times over the centuries but in its present form dating from the fifteenth, and today all kinds of events are held in it. It does not often happen that a castle passes to the villagers by the will of the person living in it, with no war or confiscation involved.

Three thousand six hundred and sixty-one inhabitants in the province of Lodi. On an old bend of the Po lies the Monticchie nature reserve, recognised on the eighteenth of June 1985: 240 hectares, of which 24 under maximum protection. The parish church was begun on the fourteenth of October 1769 to a design by the Milanese Giulio Galieri and consecrated on the thirty-first of December 1773. The municipality is crossed by the Autostrada del Sole, which however has no exit for Somaglia: there is only a service area carrying its name, a few kilometres past the Casalpusterlengo junction.
