In the Vezzole excavations, at the start of the nineteen-eighties, two burials came to light at Casalmoro: in one of them lay a skeleton in a crouched position, with a trepanned skull. The incision had been made crosswise, so as not to injure the brain, with a refined technique, and it goes back to the fifth or fourth century before Christ. Around it, potsherds, tools of horn and bone and animal remains: pigs, goats, sheep and cattle, but also deer, roe deer, wolves and beavers.

Here a border is something you dig. In the second half of the fourteenth century Bernabò Visconti had the Fossa Magna opened, the canal that fixed the limit between the lands of the lords of Milan and those of the Republic of Venice, and it still runs beside the village. Casalmoro sided with the Ghibellines, and for that it was sacked and burned by the Guelphs of Asola; in 1438 the peace between the Visconti and the Gonzaga assigned it definitively to the marquises of Mantua. The name, on the other hand, comes from that Casale Mauri of an imperial diploma of 1045.
