Remedello

There is a prehistoric civilisation that bears the name of this village. At Dovarese a Copper Age necropolis was excavated, of the fourth and third millennia before Christ, so rich and so thick with finds that archaeologists named the whole horizon to which it belongs the Remedello culture. It is not the only discovery: at Remedello Sopra a hoard of bronze axes came to light, and near the boundary with Asola further Bronze Age material. A stretch of flat alluvial Brescian lowland became, by way of a cemetery five thousand years old, a textbook term.

The Remedelli were two, Sopra and Sotto, and they long divided and reunited: in 1810 Sotto was suppressed inside Sopra, after the congress of Vienna it got its municipality back, and only in 1927 did a royal decree fuse them for good. In 1895, at Remedello Sopra, Father Piamarta and don Giovanni Bonsignori founded the Brescian Agricultural Colony, where the rotation of legumes to fix nitrogen in the soil was tested.
