Novate Milanese

Province: Milan · Region: Lombardy · Population: 19,938 · Postal code: 20026

First recorded in 877, Novate Milanese spent centuries as a purely agricultural settlement. Operating as an autonomous fiefdom alongside Roserio and belonging to the Martesana district, it functioned as a rural farming outpost just 8 kilometres northwest of Milan.

The twentieth century erased those agrarian roots, replacing them with industrial development and a massive post-WWII population boom driven by internal migration. The municipality, now 19,938 strong, officially received city status in January 2004 by presidential decree.
