Tribiano is of Lodi by history and of Milan by choice. For centuries it belonged to the territory of Lodi and to its diocese; in 1859, after the Rattazzi decree, it was assigned to the province of Milan, and when in 1992 the province of Lodi was at last re-established the municipality decided not to join it. It could have gone home and preferred to stay where it was. In the Napoleonic age, in 1809, it had for a while been a hamlet of Paullo, and had recovered its autonomy with the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia.

The name is Roman: Trebianus, a small farming village along the via Regina, the road that linked the river port of Cremona with Milan. In the coat of arms are three ears for the fertility of the soil and three stars taken from the blazon of the Melzi d'Eryl, first feudal lords from 1674. Around the nineteen-sixties some seventy factories and works were installed in the territory, which give employment to the neighbouring villages as well; the Addetta canal, a branch of the Muzza, cuts the village from north-east to south-west. Three thousand three hundred and twelve inhabitants in the metropolitan city of Milan.
